How to Buy & Use
Monero (XMR)
In Total Privacy

Monero is the most privacy-preserving cryptocurrency available. This guide walks through every step: acquiring XMR without identity verification, setting up a secure wallet, and using it for anonymous transactions on darknet platforms. All outbound resource links are to reputable open-source projects.

Privacy is not optional on Monero — it is mandatory. Every transaction hides sender, receiver, and amount by cryptographic default.

Technical Foundation

Why Monero Is the
Privacy Standard

Ring Signatures

Hidden Sender

Your transaction is mixed with 15 decoy outputs from the blockchain. External observers cannot determine which participant actually sent the coins — even with full blockchain visibility.

Stealth Addresses

Hidden Receiver

Every payment to your address generates a unique one-time address on the blockchain. No one can identify how many times you've received XMR, or link incoming payments to each other or to your published address.

RingCT

Hidden Amounts

Transaction amounts are encrypted using Pedersen commitments. The network can verify no coins are created from thin air (valid math), but the amounts themselves are invisible to any third party.

Step-by-Step: Buying
XMR Without KYC

1

Understand the KYC Problem

Most centralised exchanges (Coinbase, Binance, Kraken) require government-issued identity documents before allowing cryptocurrency purchases. This "Know Your Customer" (KYC) process creates a permanent, auditable link between your real identity and your cryptocurrency addresses. Avoid KYC exchanges entirely for privacy-sensitive use cases.

2

Option A: Peer-to-Peer Purchase

Haveno is a decentralised, Tor-native P2P exchange built specifically for Monero. Trades happen directly between buyers and sellers, with XMR held in a 2-of-3 multi-sig during the trade. No accounts, no KYC, no central server. Payment methods include cash in mail, cash deposits, and various payment apps.

3

Option B: Bitcoin → Monero Swap

If you have BTC (obtained with some privacy measures), swap it for XMR using an atomic swap service or non-custodial exchange. TradeOgre accepts BTC without KYC. XMR.to (and similar) offer direct BTC→XMR swaps. The act of converting into Monero effectively breaks the chain of traceability from your BTC holdings.

4

Set Up a Private Monero Wallet

Feather Wallet is a lightweight open-source Monero desktop wallet with Tor integration built-in. It does not require running a full node. For maximum privacy, route Feather through Tor (configurable in settings) so the server you connect to cannot see your IP. Alternative: Monero GUI (official, full node) for complete trustlessness.

Write your 25-word seed phrase on paper. Store it securely, offline, never digitally. This seed is the only backup of your funds.

5

Receive XMR to Your Wallet

In Feather or Monero GUI, navigate to the "Receive" tab to generate your receiving address. Each time you generate a new address, Monero creates a subaddress derived from your master key — all subaddresses map to the same wallet but are unlinkable on-chain. Give a fresh subaddress for each source of incoming funds.

6

Wait for 10 Confirmations

Monero transactions require 10 confirmations (approximately 20 minutes) before funds are spendable. This is a protocol-level requirement ensuring ring signature validity. Do not attempt to send XMR before confirmations are complete.

7

Deposit to TorZon Market Wallet

Log into your TorZon market account via Tor Browser. Navigate to your wallet and copy the provided Monero deposit address. In your Feather Wallet, use the "Send" tab. Paste the TorZon address — double-check every character. Set an appropriate transaction fee (normal priority is sufficient). Submit the transaction.

8

Security Best Practices

Never reuse your wallet seed on multiple devices. Never store your seed phrase digitally (no photos, no cloud, no email). Use a dedicated device for Monero transactions if possible. Regularly sweep your wallet by sending full balance to a fresh address if you suspect any information leakage about your wallet address.
